New year, New Fused Glass work!

Four new fused glass pendants and two new Koi Mobiles! I've posted the pendants multiple times to try to show how the different colors and layers show up when viewed in person.  Each pendant is 2 hand etched layers of dichroic glass with a clear layer between for depth.  They have hand wrought silver bails embedded between the layers which is a much more secure connection than a glue on bail.

The fused glass Koi  are hand painted on both sides, they have been fused and fired a second time at slump temperature to give them extra movement.  The shadows they create are extra fun!

These are now available at Studio 25, Spanish Village, Balboa Park, San Diego

Art Glass Assosiation of Southerm California's Annual Show

My entry in the " wearable " catagory at the AGASC show click title for more information. I'm late on this announcement, the reception is next Friday Nov. 6th. I sat the show yesterday, as always some great art glass to see! I got a 3rd place for my "wearable" entry pictured below. Show ends Nov. 15th. I went to the Calder jewelry exhibit at the Museaun of Art,Balboa Park, San Diego. People keep comparing my new wire work to Calder"s (Thats very nice!!) its worth the visit. I appreciate the work looking so handmade!

Dichroic Glass Jewelry, the hard way!

I've been asked Many times "How do you make your Dichroic Glass Pendants?" Here are the steps in the process. I don't take any shortcuts, I'm going for a quality product, something very special.
This is the dichroic glass before it is cut:
A glass cutter is used to cut the pieces. 2 or 3 layers of glass for each pendant.

Dichroic glass looks one color when viewed from the top, the color from a 45 degree angle will look closer to the color it will turn out after firing.

A small engraving tool is used for removing some of the Dichroic coating thus creating the designs, this part takes some time and design skills.

All the pieces ready for final careful cleaning with alcohol.

Stacked and ready to fire on kiln shelf above and after 1 1/2 hour firing to just under 1500' F below:


The fired pieces, its very hard to get a good picture of dichroic glass as its colors change when viewed from slightly different angles. I am happy with the way these turned out although surprised the background color is more gold than red! The back sides ready for signing.
