Wire Sculpture Demo!

Here is the the link to more information about the Wire Sculpture Workshop

I've been asked to do a Wire Sculpture Workshop for The Ramona Art Guild!  I did a wire sculpture demo for RAG  in Nov. of 2009, here is a link to the slideshow I did at that time Wire sculpture
If you enter wire in the search area in the upper left of the blog you will see more of my wire creations.  This should be allot of fun.  I have some ideas for very simple mobiles and turning a contour drawing into wire sculpture.  I will have a station for forming of the wire. Hammering is good for the soul! I will provide several types of wire to work with.  You are welcome to bring some of your own if you've been saving it for "something".

If you've ever looked at something made with wire and wondered if you could do it yourself, here is a chance to explore some of the possibilities of working with wire!

Some new wire sketches for the Ramona Open Studios Tour http://www.zhibit.org/ramonaart This is a really fun event, 15 Artists open their studios for the weekend. Tickets are $10 with a map and brochure. You travel at your own pace to some Very interesting Art spaces. I will be with Carol Levin, Her studio has incredible views of the local mountains, a stream and lake views. I'll have my fused Glass jewelry and larger glass work as well as the wire sculpture and some new wire earrings.

You have to use some imagination to see them as finished earrings!

Fused Glass Earrings, Copper necklace, Cat Sketches

Fused Dichroic Glass and Silver Earrings
These were made for an artist friend in trade for a beautiful pastel painting she did of our dog Sadie

Copper necklace. I enjoy the forming and hammering, having the joints makes for a better fit. The first one that was one piece had to be fit to each neck.

I've been surprised that the copper necklaces lay flat and are comfortable to wear.

Quick sketches of new cat Spotessa or "Fatcat" She is quite a charactor I plan a little book about her coming to her new home.

Not long after we got her we were given 2 kittens. She didn't like them at first, now she enjoys them and they play.

She REALLY didn't like Sadie when they met, now they are getting along fine!

Art Glass Assosiation of Southerm California's Annual Show

My entry in the " wearable " catagory at the AGASC show click title for more information. I'm late on this announcement, the reception is next Friday Nov. 6th. I sat the show yesterday, as always some great art glass to see! I got a 3rd place for my "wearable" entry pictured below. Show ends Nov. 15th. I went to the Calder jewelry exhibit at the Museaun of Art,Balboa Park, San Diego. People keep comparing my new wire work to Calder"s (Thats very nice!!) its worth the visit. I appreciate the work looking so handmade!
My glass work is always available at Studio 25, Spanish village

Copper necklace

Here is a new Copper necklace, I like to work with metals, the copper is a good way to experiment with large gauge wire without the expence of Silver.

The first necklace seemed to have to be bent or fitted to indivual necks so on this one I made a joint. It worked well, fits down on individual necks much better.

This one I simplified even more.

An artist friend won a wire necklace at the Ramona Art Guilds Wire demo I did. When she wore it I could see she needed some earrings to wear with it. This is the first pair I tried, the photo makes them look huge, I have to get some copper wire the right gauge and try some more.

This pendant with embedded silver fired looking copper so I thought it would be a good one to make a copper necklace to go with it. I think I'll try a smaller gauge wire.

This is the finished necklace:

Netherlands Horse Rescue and New Wire Sculpture

I was so moved by the Netherlands Horse Rescue I thought I should create some artwork that would somehow share the emotion. About 200 horses were trapped on a tiny island for days after terrible flooding. Four women rode out into the cold water and the herd followed them back to dry land! These are some sketches in glass before firing, the finished glass is too stiff in the large piece, I will continue to work with the idea.

Here is the finished wire sculpture of Comedy and Tragedy, 8" x 10" done for one of the visitors to the Ramona Studio Tour

The 3" x 4" wire sketch:
