Cactus Monday
When Margaret Storer-Rochehttp://waterblossoms.blogspot.com/2008/06/queen-of-night.html Posted her Queen of the Night Blooming Cereus. I knew why I had not seen the bloom on the cactus I drew last week! The prevoius week I drew the cati from memory. When I drove by it must have been early AM or late in the evening. So here is the bud I'm happy I got to see the Bloom on Margaret's post!

Pendents for Transcendance
In April one of our figure drawing models invited us to a rehersal of the dance group shes involved with. We took pictures and did some drawings, made a donation to the group, Transcendance. http://www.tdarts.org/ They are a energetic group and it was a great chance to see, photograph and draw a large number of dancers at a time. I thought it would be a nice gesture to create pendants for each of the dancers. Time flys when your having fun! The Shows last proformance was the 29th so I barely got them finished. I try to photograph my glass before it goes to gallerys or customers this time I didn't get a chance so all I have is my picture on the shelf. I hope they enjoy them!
These are some of the etched irridized glass pendant's top layer before firing.

Cactus Monday
Painted these cati from memory last week. Went back to get some pictures, there was one flower that had not bloomed. I was checking it daily so I could get a good look at the bloom. It must have bloomed when the 105' temp and wind wilted it. ?Such a graceful looking bud I bet the flower is spectactular, I'll have to wait till next year!

Cactus Monday and Question about Lost Comments
Cactus Monday came around fast! I had seen huge white blooms while driving and did not make it back to photograph. This was done very quickly from memory. Ballpoint pen and watercolor. I know cactus blooms don't last long so I took a drive back to see if any blooms were left...one remains unopened, I'll check today to see if it has bloomed!

Slide Show of James Hubbells!
The slideshow is pictures taken when the Art Glass Association of Southern California visited his complex June 7th. 8 amazing structures on the property. I wish I had taken more pictures of the buildings from a distance. http://www.hubbellandhubbell.com/

EDM #10 Draw your hand or 100 hands
I thought it would be good practice to draw one hundred hands! Another thought was to buy a large book at a thrift store, gesso the pages to use as a sketchbook for acrylics or oil sketches. The pages were too thin to have the gessoed pages work. So I decided to go ahead and sketch the hands in the book! It has been good practice, I made my left hand draw my right a few time as well (its showing improvement) I'm not comfortable defacing the book-copyright issues with the author etc. Interesting where the images in the book take you. It has been fun!
This is the book that the 100 hands started in, when I realized that they were all left hands I tried a few with my left hand drawing my right. Amazing how fast lefty wore out!

EDM #2 Draw a Lamp
This lamp adorns one of the incredible buildings in the home and studio complex designed by James Hubbell http://www.hubbellandhubbell.com/ The Art Glass Association of Southern California toured his complex last Saturday. I had previously seen his work on a PBS special and some of his stained glass and art work in galleries. The buildings, sculpture and glass work are just amazing, there is so much attention to detail, every doorknob and hinge are unique. I have asked permission to share my photos of his amazing place and I plan to make a slideshow or have them on my Flicker page. I am so inspired by the visit! I would highly recomend taking the once a year tour offered next weekend. Details on his website.

Cactus Monday and EDM # 141 Draw Something with Bristles
Turns out I painted the little ones that don't really have bristles or maybe when they grow up they will? Staples gel pens and watercolor in Raffine sketchbook.
Anyone know what type of cactus this is? Are the small ones at the bottom a different type? Its about 8 feet tall! I try to stay away from them.
